Reflection 1.1
Reflection 1.1
Working with ICTs is something that was rarely brought into my classroom as a student, so coming into this new technological world in the classroom will be challenging for me. Throughout my adult life I have tried to become involved in technology and using it to enhance my learning because it is the future and so I feel like if I keep on using this technology my skills and knowledge will only prosper and benefit me in the future. With that being said I see myself at a mid-range point being not quite competent but not uninformed.
I am excited to be using ICTs and I believe it is an effective tool in teaching as it can change a whole way of thinking and problem solving. I really want ICTs to be a big part of my pedagogy and method of teaching because from what my younger siblings have told me is that they prefer an online space to complete their work and as they spend a lot of their time online they find it is more appealing and simply just easier, not so much as a “chore”.
Traditional teaching may work for some students but I feel as though ICTs may release a students inner self and make learning fun for those who may not like sitting at a desk and writing in their notebooks. ICTs can allow students to work their way, which can enhance creative thinking but also gives them freedom that teenagers feel they lack during their time at school.
I remember back to when I was completing my undergraduate degree and when I think back to what class I enjoyed the most I think straight away back to Year One with Stephen, our lecturer for interpersonal skills. That was my favourite class and it was my favourite because it was interactive and used ICTs and I found myself loving every minute of it. Videos, pictures, music, TED talks, comedy, speeches, they were all found online and what a great resource to have. As I am a person who isn’t a huge fan of writing or reading textbooks, I found this way of teaching as refreshing and as a student treasured each class. This is what I want my students to feel, motivation to learn using ICTs.
