Reflection 1.2
Reflection 1.2
ICTs and Social Media is crucial in teenagers lives, as teenagers spend anywhere from one to nine hours being online in one day. It is crazy to me how much one can spend online, however teenagers can be creative, real, devoted and focused on games, social media, youtube, websites and school work. The video below shows just the amount that can be accomplished by using ICTs and inspires many young people all over the world.

" Oh my god Casey, you truly re-inspired me! I want to be a photographer and film maker, but I was beginning to doubt myself. I wasn't sure I could reach my end goal of "making it big." Nonetheless, this video almost made me cry because it reminded me of the amazing and selfless things you and other youtubers/filmmakers have done, and now I can say I WON'T give up!"
"Casey, I am 65 and so wish you were around when I was 15 to tell me to do what I can't. I grew up with everyone telling me what I could and could not do. How to do what I should do. And when to do what I should do. How to dress, when to dress and the result is I am a well above average IQ, brave adult who did not do what I was created to do but did what I was told to do. I deeply appreciate your message Casey. Good on you. "
These are just two of the comments I found for this video. Giving teenagers the freedom and access to create and use ICTs may benefit themselves and others and so as an emerging teacher I want to be the same.
I really like to come together and shown physically the way in which something is done, I am a do-er, however with that being said, throughout University I had to adapt to being a listener in the way I learned and now feel as though I learn best with the use of both techniques. A good mix of learning is important and I feel that is the way I will structure my pedagogy and weave it with the Australian Curriculum to fit the standards.
I want to keep learning controlled however leave students to have their freedoms and work in their own way in particular tasks and use ICTs to encourage that. ICTs are the future and giving students the opportunity to be involved in that during schooling will help them progress with their goals and dreams, so I am excited to get involved personally and learn for myself what is out there and the importance of each program.
As a teacher I will outsource to online resources to change up the classroom and perhaps hear something from an expert who covers the content but also explains things in a real and passionate way, hopefully inspiring students.
As far as experience goes I am a avid Microsoft user, social media advocate and have a YouTube addiction and that is as far as my knowledge goes. Take Casey for example, he sends good messages and inspires millions of people every day through the use of ICTs and has come together with other online creators to collaborate on projects and so has made a bunch of connections with other people purely from being online.
First off I want to gush a little bit about Casey Niestat. I think he is a great advocate for the use of technology. He is a do-er (just like you said you are) and I think the way he incorporates technology into his very busy and successful life is something to be inspired by.
ReplyDeleteI think your idea about the mix of explicit teaching and the use of ICT's is great and definitely something I want to be able to aspire to as well. I think there is a whole wide world out there that can be reached with the phone in our pockets if we're willing to embrace technology.
